Introduction

The Center of Indigenous Education and Research in National Pingtung University was established on August 1, 1994. When it was first established, it was named the Center for Mountain Peoples’ Education. Due to a constitutional amendment in 1996, the term “Mountain Peoples” was replaced by “Indigenous People.”

2000-2005 Tzu-Lie Chen (Department of Elementary Education)

2005-2007 Gen-Ming Wu became director of the center.

2007-2015 Chun-Feng Lin (AMIS, Department of Physical Education)

2015- 2018 Tjuku Ruljigaljia (PAIWAN, Studies of Health and Leisure & Cultural Industries for Indigenes)

2018- 2021 Yung-ching Lo became director of the center.

2022-Kadrui paljingau (PAIWAN, Studies of Indigenous Cultural Development

 

Location

We are located on the third floor in the Jing Ye Building on the Lin-Sen Campus.

 

Goal

To assist all of the university’s  indigenous students and to improve indigenous education and research.

The Indigenous Education Research Center was established to expand the scope and contribution of indigenous education, including research in fields such as indigenous educational and social situations. The purpose of the Center is to help equip indigenous people in southern Taiwan with the knowledge and resources they need to deal with challenges they encounter. The Indigenous Education Research Center aims to be a premier regional institution that champions indigenous culture and expands knowledge through education and research. 

 

Aims

1) carrying out research and training in the fields of educational policy, support systems for indigenous people, traditional indigenous languages, ethnic education, empowerment, and cultural awareness.

2) generating research results for use by educational policy analysts, government ministries and institutions as well as people in the indigenous sector, including Taiwan’s Council of Indigenous People.

3) promoting exchanges between the Indigenous Education Research Center, regional and international research institutions, etc., and participating in international conferences.

4) improving the university’s curriculum and course offerings for those undertaking studies in indigenous culture and language so as to better meet the needs of indigenous people.
